Weaving with Silver Creek

Silver Creek Basket Guild meets on the 1st Saturday of each month, unless it's a holiday weekend we meet on the 2nd Saturday. September through June at 9:00 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon, Wisconsin.

Annual dues are $25

The membership is open to experienced basket weavers
(who understand the terminology, and are able to independently weave a round and a square base).

1/2" Flat for Spokes
-cut 16 spokes at 36" each, Mark the centers and 2 ¼" from center on both sides of 8 spokes. Note: These spokes may be dyed. Smoked works well.
=#2 Round Reed for Bottom Weaving
=3/8" Flat for Rim Row
=1/2" Flat Oval for Rim
=Seagrass for Filler
=11/64" Flat or Flat Oval for Lasher
=Scraps for Weavers
Bottom: keep base flat on the table.
Place 8 spokes in a circle -rough side up -matching marked centers.

Following the 2 1/4" marks start twining with #2 rr. Twine around 4 or 5 rows.
Add the 2nd set of spokes. Leave a 1" space between the last row of twining and the start of the next. Adding spokes as you go. Twine as many row as necessary to make your base measure approx. 10" across.
Sides: Upset your spokes. Your basket can either go straight up or lean out slightly. Your first row should start with a wider size reed for strength. From then on weave in all your odds & ends.
Rim Row: 3/8" should be your last row. The basket at this point should be at least 1 0 1/2" tall. Cut and tuck. Cover rim row with 1/2" flat oval and fill with seagrass.
