Minutes April 5th 2009
Minutes April 2nd, 2009
Silver Creek Basket Guild
Dawn called the meeting to order about 6:35. Since Marlene is on vacation there was no treasurers report. Members agreed to wave the reading of the March 5, 2009 minutes since the minutes had previously been mailed, emailed and posted on the blog.
Old Business
Members were reminded the Saturday Weave of the Northwoods Bushel Basket will be April 25th from 9:15 to 3:30 followed by 30 minutes for cleanup at Ripon Public Library, 120 Jefferson Street. (a map is on their website http://www.riponlibrary.org/, The library opens at 9 AM, so we will be setting up those first few minutes) Lunch was discussed with members deciding to use a pizza delivery service. The guild will pay for pizza but members are also free to bring their own sack lunch if desired. The color of the filler seagrass was discussed. Many members decided #3 Natural should be ordered. It was suggested that members who have green at home will bring it on the 25th and some trading and sharing will go on.
Dawn reminded everyone that Lake County Guild’s BasketFest is May 1-3 in West Bend. Here is there website. http://www.lakecountrybasketguild.com/
Dawn asked for suggestions for handling Show and Share so we have more weaving time on guild meeting nights. Several suggestions were made. The final suggestion was to not have a formal presentation of baskets but to just start weaving after the meeting and then as people needed a break they would walk around and look at the baskets.
New Business
New members Tracy and Niki and were welcomed. ( daughter-in-law and daughter of existing members!)
Updated membership information was distributed. Thanks to Marty for handing that out. Any corrections should be reported to Darleen. A new membership list will be made again in the fall.
Darleen showed a brochure from “Weaving in Winona” June 26-28. Prices looked pretty reasonable for both workshops and housing. http://www.weavinwinona.com/
May Project
Judy will lead "Sweetie" on May 7th. Members are encouraged to print off your own pattern at the Bases To Weave Website; http://www.basestoweave.com
Judy will be bringing all the supplies for this basket; wooden base, round reed and beads. A few pattern copies will be available at the meeting.
June Project
Ann will be leading Tall Bath Tissue Basket in June. An order sheet was passed around for the wooden lids and 6” x 20” handles. Members who were absent and want a lid or handle should contact Ann. Materials list will be sent and posted in a few weeks.
Darleen asked for suggestions as to how to handle the punch card gift she is accumulating from East Troy Basketry. Tool totes were selected for give away drawings.
