I did become "friends" with several basket making designers and stores. Facebook is just a good place to look at baskets and network with other weavers. Currently I am invited to two "events" by Facebook Basket Weavers (managed by The Country Seat); a round reed basket (that is quite charming) using 4 weavers in a double rod 2 ply weave and an oval basket on a "D" handle. Since they are both held in Pennsylvania, I doubt if I will be attending.
Dunbar Gardens (Katherine Lewis) has a lovely facebook wall with photos of many wonderful baskets. It will make you want to plant up a willow grove of your own. She currently finished a huge order of about 20 large baskets for a grocery store produce display in Chicago. Don't you wonder why none of us get orders like that?
Weaving Traditions is a facebook page put out by the Missouri Basketweavers Guild and contains information about their convention as well as little interesting tidbits such as the difference between the craft waxed linen that we can find at Hobby Lobby and Irish Waxed Linen that is sold at basketry stores.
Even the National Basketry Organization, Inc. has its own facebook page.
East Troy Basketry posts sales, specials, news and classes on its wall.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you already have a facebook account (or think you might want one, sign up for a gmail account HERE) and try starting at East Troy Basketry. Just type East Troy Basketry (or any of the listed sites for that matter) in the search box at the top of your facebook page. Click on one of Eileen's "Likes". Some artists are also listed under her "Friends".
The weather is still too nice outside but this winter when you need some motivation to weave or an idea of something to weave, check out facebook.
