Basket Woven from Map

Plaited Map Basket
Years ago JoAnn lead a similar plaited basket as one of our monthly projects.  I thought some of you might like the directions to make it out of a map.

Some of you might remember Anne, former owner of Middleton Basketry & Supplies, who gave gave us an antler workshop years ago. She wove a wonderful "going away" basket out of a map as a gift for a friend. She took great care when cutting the strips to leave city street, landmark and park names easily visible to remind the recipient of events during the years she lived there.

Click HERE for the directions on cutting the map strips and weaving the basket.

Be sure to check out page 2 of the directions. There are some cute variations made from newspapers. The Sunday Funnies basket is especially nice.
