June 5, 2014 Guild Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Sue at 6:15.

JoAnn made a motion to approve the May minutes as posted on the blog, seconded by Dawn, motion carried.

Patti gave the treasurer's report, we have $411.79 left in our account.

Sue read a card from Pat W. thanking the guild for all the cards of support she received.

Barb B. brought a guest, Pat, to our meeting.  She is an accomplished pine needle weaver but has never attempted to weave with reed.  We all hope to see her as a new member when our meetings start back up in September!

In Old Business:  The plans have been finalized for the All Day Weave on October 18th beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Sandy Bulgerin will be teaching us how to weave pine needles on a gourd.  This will begin with a power point presentation on how she prepares all the items for weaving.  The cost will be $30.00 per person for all the materials to make a beautiful gourd basket.  The guild will pay her $150.00 for teaching the class.  There will a pot luck lunch at this function.

In New Business:  We voted to begin our meeting on the first Thursday in September, the 4th.  The members in attendance didn't have a problem with having the meeting that close to the Labor Day weekend.
We need someone to step up for the September meeting and volunteer to teach a basket or tell us what they would like to learn.  Any suggestions?

JoAnn brought flyers for the Shawano Wolf River Basketry Guild's Fall Workshop on September 26-28, 2014.  The instructors will be Joni-Dee Ross, Flo Hoppe, and Bonnie Gale.  It will be held at the Borders Inn and Suites, Shawano, WI.  For more information the website is:  www.wolfriverbasketryguild.com

Mary and Susan brought in their finished baskets from previous month's patterns.  They turned out beautifully, ladies!

JoAnn shared a secret for preserving rubber stamping or other painted artwork that is applied to handles.  She said to seal the artwork with clear nail polish.  By using the nail polish, the paint won't be washed off when you wet the basket to weave.

Krista made a motion to adjourn with Geri seconding the motion.
