Weaving with Silver Creek

Silver Creek Basket Guild meets on the 1st Saturday of each month, unless it's a holiday weekend we meet on the 2nd Saturday. September through June at 9:00 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon, Wisconsin.

Annual dues are $25

The membership is open to experienced basket weavers
(who understand the terminology, and are able to independently weave a round and a square base).

November 5, 2015 Minutes

Silver Creek Basket Guild Meeting Minutes November 5, 2015

Meeting was called to order by Krista, President at 6:01 p.m.

The October minutes were approved without changes.
Roll call attendance taken by Geri, Secretary.
Those present were: Sue, Denise, Barb B., Beth, Barbara E., Pat, Barb J., Sharon, Geri, JoAnn, Krista, Stephanie, Judy, Karen, Patti, Dawn, and Ann.

OLD BUSINESS
Old World Wisconsin Donation Update – 
15-20 baskets requested – weave date on a Saturday in April TBD [To Be Determined].  This was removed from the February weave.  Dawn showed her sample basket. 7” high 9x12 plain closed bottom, basic light oak, with handle, no dye. Plans to deliver have yet TBD for some time in May 2016.

CHURCH CHILI FUNCTION: $84 was collected out-of-pocket for the church’s chili supper. We will continue to ‘pass the basket’ annually for our donation in lieu of donating a basket for their bazaar sale.

CHURCH DONATION:  Suggested and approved giving the church $50 yearly donation at Christmastime. 


NEW BUSINESS
We have several molds being kept with our president that can be checked out by any member wishing to use them. A log will be kept as not to lose sight of them. Contact Krista if needed.

Our guild has a lot of donated reed. Ann is taking inventory so we can then plan monthly basket weaves to use it up in the months ahead.  We will start using some already next month. Refer to December 3rd meeting below to see what will be provided [unless you prefer natural, bring your own] and what you need to bring.

December 3rd meeting at the church @  5:30 p.mPOTLUCK [yum-yum] and WHITE ELEPHANT basket related gift inside a brown paper bag if you so choose to participate. Rules will follow.

                             Guild reed available: 11/64” FO weavers [red and green] or bring your own 
Seagrass – rim filler
#2 Round - twining
1/2” FO - rim

Here’s what you’ll need to bring: your tools, $14 for bases & candle [2-AA batteries NOT included];
1/2” flat flat – 24 stakes @ 7”
3/8 flat flat for rim row 

If you didn't sign up for the base/candle at the November meeting, you’ll need to contact Barb before December to ensure that you have it for the upcoming meeting.

Dawn W. mentioned that she will not be weaving at our December Potluck White Elephant meeting, BUT promised to be our entertainment. 

Barb E. made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Dawn W. seconded the motion.
Meeting was adjourned by 6:35 p.m. 

For the remainder of the evening the guild made the Cherokee Wheels basket. It’s a very cute basket to weave and versatile for many uses. Thank you JoAnn!
