May 7, 2020 Meeting Minutes

Denise called the May meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.
There were eight members virtually connected.
The March minutes were approved by Patti and Peggy, as there wasn't an April meeting.

June 4 - This meeting will again be virtual. DO NOT delete Ann's original email with the link on how to join the group meeting at 5:45 p.m. If you cannot attend and have any ideas for a fall weave, etc. please contact Denise so that she can put them on her agenda.

SPRING WEAVE IS RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 1 -
Becky Bechtel from Bright Expectations will teach at the church. The cost will be $90/$75 depending on which basket you chose to weave. There is an extra cost for multi-wood bases. If you cannot make the August 1 weave and you ordered the kits, you are still obligated to pay for your kits through JoAnn. Please be considerate and contact JoAnn for more information. Time TBD.

September 3 - The Gretchen Border/Rim will be taught at this meeting by Ann & JoAnn. Please bring a cut and tucked round basket. Also, bring #2 or #3 round reed and a sponge to keep the reed damp while weaving so the weavers don't break. This is NOT a basket that allows a new weaver to be added. A good length to bring would be 60" pieces of Round Reed, that will give you approximately 10 rows of the border. The formula for how much reed to cut is: 3" per row multiplied by 2 because the Round Reed gets hair-pinned around the spokes.

Also, annual dues of $25 will be due at this meeting. We decided that there will not be any reimbursements or adjustments from last year's dues due to the COVID-19.

October 1 - Split Stitch Basket led by Krista. The 10" bases, leather handles, and patterns are in, please get in touch with Krista for picking up soon as not to delay payment any longer.

October Saturday Weave - TBD and ideas welcome. Dawn and Geri want to make the Sock Basket again, and we have the pattern. If supplies are needed we can share with one another. Everyone is welcome to join, but if another group wanted to do something else there is enough room to spread out and work together without hiring a teacher. It would be a fun day that we can physically learn from one another.

November 5 - Square to Round Twilled Basket led by Patti. The basket is unique measuring 15" x 12" and the pattern is from wendygjensenbaskets.com.

December 3 - Potluck and what to weave will be decided at our meeting in June. Please voice your ideas.

2021 January through June are open.

A motion was made by Krista to adjourn and seconded by Ann.
Show & Tell: Marty shared her boot with a Gretchen border. So cute.
FYI: Minwax has a new stain called Weathered Oak.

As always, if you have any questions please contact Denise, our guild president.
