Turn Straw into Gold? Well, How About Cotton Embroidery Thread into Waxed Linen?

I try to look at a craft blog once or twice a week called CRAFTZINE . Posts are a mixed bag of the really odd, the somewhat lame and really cool stuff. Today my heart beat faster when I saw a link on the website with this headline, "Making Waxed Linen Thread".

I often rim with waxed linen and since I like the lasher to "disappear into the rim", often want it in a variety of colors. Colors that I never can find. The blog "Craft Leftovers" suggests taking plain embroidery floss and simply running it through candle wax until coated. HERE is the actual post. I think I would take it one set farther though and use paraffin wax so there was no color or scent to the wax.

Perhaps many of you are like me. As a mostly former, but occasional cross stitcher, who has two daughters who still make friendship bracelets once in awhile---I have 5 boxes of DMC floss in a rainbow of colors. I can't wait to experiment with this!
