November 7th Guild minutes:
Sue called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m.
Treasurers Report: Patti reported that we had $549.00 in the club's checking account. (since corrected to $500.49). We had 22 members present at the meeting. This included new member, Nicole, and prospective members: Geri, Naomi, and Barb.
Old business: It was decided to go with the March 29 date for the spring weave. Sue was unable to reserve the library for the weave. They only book three months prior, she will call back later to reserve the room. There were a large number of patterns on display from which to choose our spring weave project. The pattern chosen by the most members was "Shadow Weave" by Margaret Harness of Willow's Basketry.
It was suggested that we begin the December Weave and Feed at 5:30 p.m. to allow more time for the White Element Swap* ( see description from Ruth below.) and weaving. Jo Ann volunteered a basket pattern for December. It was a door basket that won't require anyone to teach, so everyone can enjoy themselves. Don't for get to bring a dish to pass.
An FYI for members: Shirley Mount will be holding her second Wisconsin Weave Away at New Auburn, WI. on March 20-March 22. For more information, check out Shirley's website www.basketpatch.com. Dawn moved to adjourn and Barb B. seconded.
* This year we decided to have a White Elephant Gift Exchange as part of our December meeting. This exchange gift should be basket related and something you no longer want, but someone else might. Use your imagination on the "related" part. No need to spiff up your gift with fancy wrapping paper to throw others off. Just put your item in a brown grocery bag. Now all gifts are on an equal playing field. We will be playing a game as we exchange. When your number is drawn, you will be able to claim an opened gift or choose a fresh one. Plan on not becoming attached to your gift, someone with a number after you will be able to take yours and you will get to open a new one. As you can see this is all in fun. As they say,"one person's junk is another's treasure."
