I neglected to pick up the Project Sign Up Sheet when I left last night. Does anyone know who has it or where it is?
Minutes May 7, 2009
Vice President Pat called the meeting to order. There was no treasury report and the emailed/mailed reading of April minutes were approved as read by JoAnn and 2nd by Diane T.
Old Business
Extra copies of the materials list needed for June's Tall Bath Tissue Basket were available. The list is also posted on the blog; go to the blog, type in "Materials June 2009" to locate the list. Ann has ordered bases and handles for everyone.
Marlene showed the book that was donated to the library in memory of Shirley. Judy believed she told the family about the donation but Marlene will check to make sure the library will send a note to Shirley's daughter or if they don't, she will write the note herself.
Members were reminded that officer nominations and elections will be held in June. Pat has volunteered to step up from Vice President to President, with the stipulation that Dawn/or someone else will chair the 3 winter meetings when she doesn't attend guild. Darleen explained that she currently has a variety of personal challenges and after much consideration has decided to not run for another term. She will gladly train someone to take over as administrator of the blog and will still do some posts. Marlene would like to step down as Treasurer since she has held this post for many years "but will continues unless someone else wants to do it". Elizabeth has volunteered to be the new Corresponding Secretary. So positions needed to be filled next month are Vice-President, Secretary and possibly Treasurer.
Members who have not finished their Northwoods or who purchased a kit should look over their supplies. There is one pair of leather handles left over. Either someone is missing a set or Darleen can not count- which is a distinct possibility. Please email Darleen if you find something missing from your supplies.
New Business
The June Meeting will start at 6:00 since it will be a Snack and Weave. Snacks and Hors d'œuvres of all kinds are welcome. Bring your own beverage. Plates, napkins and plastic-wear will be provided.
A Sign Up sheet for 2009-2010 Projects was passed around.
Pat talked a little bit about the pricing of basket. The link to the handout that she referred to will be posted on the blog . Pat also addressed the issue of coping patterns for individual use vs. each individual buying their own pattern. She stressed the importance of all members getting along with one another.
Darleen and Sue will lead a simple twill bowl in October. The basket is based on a pattern by Dianne Gleixner and she uses a plastic bowl as a mold to weave the sides. Darleen mentioned that right now Wal-Mart had perfect plastic bowls in their Summer Dinnerware section for about a $1. Dollar stores might also be a good place to look. JoAnn recommended drilling holes in the bottom of the plastic bowls and wooden bases to help keep them together while weaving.
Darleen also has been weaving the baskets over both aluminum and glass bowls, holding the bowls to the wooden bases with duct tape. Judy mentioned it is nice to weave the basket without drilling as then when you USE the basket, the plastic bowl can become a liner. The directions say the bowl should have a base of about 6", the top diameter should be about 12" ( mine was larger and worked fine) and the bowls height should be about 6". Again your mission before October ( but do it now, while all the plastic stuff is out) is to find a cheap plastic bowl:
Base 6' DIAMETER; TOP APPROX. 12" DIAMETER; APPROX. 6" TALL
Since I am working up the baskets in 4 sizes just about any bowl will do.
Several baskets were looked at as possibilities to use up all the 3/8" left over from the Northwoods Bushel.
The motion to adjourn was made by Marie and 2nd by Sara.
